Follow the Food Trails in Good Housekeeping

Picnics with a view and news of delicious destinations are creeping into our magazines’ Spring editions. Good Housekeeping’s April issue focuses on a selection of breaks where food is at the top of the menu, including client Hedonistic Hiking’s Slovenia and Friuli tour. The 8-night guided walking holiday explores Kobarid, the culinary capital of Slovenia, before crossing over to the Italian Friuli region. Culinary highlights of the tour include a meal at the Hiša Franko restaurant in Kobarid while for hikers, there are magnificent walks past crystal-clear lakes and through the Pasica Gorge.

It can’t be easy to know where to start when pressed to find the 50 best holidays in Italy, as the Times did last weekend with its annual round-up of ideas.  We were delighted to see two of our clients featured amongst the collection of holidays which incorporated hiking, cycling, sailing, riding and a fair amount of wine-tasting and foodie-related suggestions.

Great to see two of our clients featured in the website’s travel section. Fresh mountain air, spectacular scenery and some wonderful spa indulgence are just some of the treats on a Hedonistic Hiking guided walking holiday – but gourmet food and superb wine also play their part (cue ‘Hedonistic’). We’re thrilled to be working with Hedonistic Hiking whose guided walking holidays in Italy focus as much on food and wine as on the landscape. So, as well as some spectacular hiking, there is wine-tasting, gourmet picnic lunches, visits to cheese producers and, in the autumn, truffle hunting.  Guests stay in hand-picked, locally-owned hotels including Italy’s distinctive alberghi diffusi, an initiative which supports the conversion of empty or abandoned homes in a rural village to provide ‘scattered’ rooms, rather than building a new hotel.
