Luxury family villa in Modica, Sicily

Booking ahead … how far will you go?

Personally, I’m happy to book my next holiday whilst still enjoying the current one.  Greedy perhaps, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s always good to have one in the bag.  Greed aside, if you’re restricted by dates, whether as a result of school holidays, work schedules or the complicated commitments of friends or several kids, there is something to be said for booking in the autumn for the following summer.  Nothing quite beats the smugness of having booked your preferred villa and low-cost flights well before the winter sets in.

If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the Guardian’s recent round-up of top 20 European villas for families, including ideas from JG Communications’ clients Croatian Villa Holidays and soloSicily.

Family-friendly beachfront villa from soloSicily

Where to go for some good holiday advice

More coverage for our clients, this time thanks to the Times‘ Travel Doctor who recommends soloSicily’s beachfront villa Amaltea as the perfect solution for a family looking for child-friendly accommodation in Sicily.

In a great position in south east Sicily and with a huge garden that leads straight on to a white sandy beach, the cottage is also conveniently placed for easy access to pizzerias, bars and shops and close to the fabulous baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Scicli.

Celebrate in style

If you’re planning a celebration or simply in search of a large group villa, check out journalist Caroline Phillip’s feature in Lusso magazine following her stay at soloSicily’s villa Il Vignale.

Days out in Palermo and gentle strolls through sleepy local villages are just one half of the story; beaches and rural landscapes of olive groves and vineyards provide the perfect backdrop to al fresco feasts and poolside siestas.

Fast food Sicilian style

Do spicy spleen sandwiches and barbecued lamb intestines do it for you?  Or are you more of a ricotta-filled zucchini flower sort of grazer? Journalist Caroline Phillips recently tested a soloSicily Street Food Tour in Palermo to check out how the local panelle compared with pizza, and was pleasantly surprised by what she found.  Read her article on High50.com.
