The Insider’s Guide to Sicily

Anyone planning a trip to Sicily would do well to start with the Guardian’s recent Holiday Guide to East Sicily. Compiled by Liz Boulter, the guide gives the complete low down on everything worth seeing and doing on the island’s Ionian Coast, from the best beaches and nature reserves, to its towns, villages, castles and palaces.

Great advice too on where to eat and stay, including Wish Sicily’s gorgeous Villa Lo Scoglio, a two-bedroom villa situated just south of Syracuse, with 270° sea views and direct access to rocks for swimming.

JG Communications appointed by Hedonistic Hiking

We’re thrilled to be working with Hedonistic Hiking whose guided walking holidays in Italy focus as much on food and wine as on the landscape. So, as well as some spectacular hiking, there is wine-tasting, gourmet picnic lunches, visits to cheese producers and, in the autumn, truffle hunting.  Guests stay in hand-picked, locally-owned hotels including Italy’s distinctive alberghi diffusi, an initiative which supports the conversion of empty or abandoned homes in a rural village to provide ‘scattered’ rooms, rather than building a new hotel.

Budget holiday ideas from Prima magazine

Get some top tips on keeping holiday costs down from the April issue of Prima magazine. If you thought that a maximum budget of £50 per person per night meant camping and baked beans on toast, think again. Suggestions from Prima include holidays in France, Spain, Tokyo and the Big Apple and, for those who just want to crash by their own private pool, Wish Sicily’s Casa Turchina. The 3-bedroom villa has a garden and pool and is just 100m from the beach. Read Prima article here.

The Times: Top 50 holidays in Italy 2017

Great to see client Wish Sicily’s new Villa Idda included in the best new places to stay section of the Times’ 50 Best Holidays in Italy for 2017. Set amongst the orange groves that surround the seaside town of Acireale, the recently restored villa comprises two separate buildings (perfect for two families), connected by a shaded dining terrace overlooking the garden and pool. Think cool, stone surfaces, sunken baths, double height ceilings and vast picture windows – this is definitely one for the bucket list!

Hot spots for summer 2017

Client Wish Sicily’s Villa Renata was one of two holidays in Italy featured in the Sunday Times’ round-up of top holidays to book before the January rush. Summer 2016 saw a high demand for key destinations and many families missing out on their first choice of holiday. This, combined with general uncertainty in terms of perceived low-risk destinations, means that there has never been a better time to beat the crowds and take advantage of some of the early booking offers available. Wish you were in Sicily?

The September issue of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine is packed full of ideas on the best ways to holiday in Italy in a comprehensive Total Guide to the country. The Lakes, Tuscany, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily are all there, with JG Communications’ client Wish Sicily one of three recommended villa operators in the Sicily section.

A taste of paradise in the Med

Thanks to AOL Travel for its round-up of exotic holidays – minus the long-haul flight. Suggestions include the beaches along Sardinia’s eastern shores, to the south of the Olbia, which are renowned for their turquoise water and powder soft white sand and where Cala Brandinchi beach is known locally as Little Tahiti – for good reason. Specialist tour operator to Italy, ExpertoItaly, offers a selection of hotels in San Teodoro, including the beachfront Paradise Resort.

Also from AOL, invaluable information on just a few of the holidays that get snapped up as much as a year in advance.  Anyone in search of a room with a view on the Amalfi Coast next May or June really does need to start planning now! Read article here.
